Compliance Audits & Inspections

Why do we need to do these?

General Industry Safety Orders - 8 CCR 3203(a)(4), Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

"Include procedures for identifying and evaluating work place hazards including scheduled periodic inspections to identify unsafe conditions and work practices."  


Construction Safety Orders - 8 CCR 1511(b), General Safety Precautions.

"Prior to the presence of its employees, the employer shall make a thorough survey of the conditions of the site to determine, so far as practicable, the predictable hazards to employees and the kind and extent of safeguards necessary to prosecute the work in a safe manner"

What do we need to Inspect?

OSHA "Wall to Wall" audits.  These types of audits typically focus on all regulatory requirements, not just OSHA.  The list below details which agencies could be included.

  

  • Cal/OSHA, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Fed/OSHA, Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Fed/DOT, Federal Department of Transportation
  • CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • BMBL, Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, 5th Ed. (CDC)
  • CFC, California Fire Code
  • CBC, California Building Code
  • HSC, California Health & Safety Code
  • MWMP, California Medical Waste Management Program


The following list details the typical areas these audits will focus on, as needed.

  • Required Written Safety Programs  
  • Required Safety Training
  • Emergency-related; exits, equipment, etc.
  • Hazardous Materials; storage, use, labeling, incompatibility, proper containers, etc.
  • Hazardous Waste; compliant accumulations, storage, labeling, permits, etc.
  • Electrical Safety; compliant cords and panels, damaged components, etc.
  • Building Safety; proper signage, material storage, general housekeeping, etc.  


Construction Jobsite Inspections.  These inspections will be rooted in Cal/OSHA regulations.  Equipment used on jobsites will often need to be used, stored and inspected per the manufacturers recommendations.  The following list details the typical areas these inspections will focus on, as needed.

  • Electrical Safety; compliant cords and panels, damaged components, etc.
  • Compliant Tool use, condition, and storage (power, powder-actuated, pneumatic)
  • Industrial Trucks; use, inspections, training (forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts)
  • Scaffolding Systems
  • Trenching and Excavation operations
  • Emergency Equipment; fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc.
